Following the historic Victory achieved in the Patriotic War, the territories of Agdam that had been under occupation were returned to Azerbaijan on 20 November 2020, in accordance with the trilateral statement.
By the Orders of President Ilham Aliyev, 20 November is marked as Agdam City Day, and the medal “For the Liberation of Agdam” has been instituted.
On 23 November 2020, the President raised the national tricolour flag of Azerbaijan in the centre of Agdam.
As in other territories liberated from occupation as a result of the Glorious Victory, extensive construction and reconstruction works are being carried out in Agdam as well. A new, modern Agdam is being built upon the ruins.
Within the framework of the “Böyük qayıdış” programme, Agdam city and its villages are being rebuilt. Infrastructure projects are being implemented, roads are being constructed, new production facilities are being created, green areas are being planted, and the territories are being cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.
