As part of the visit of labour ministers and delegations of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to Baku, a high-level roundtable was held.
At the opening session of the event organised on the theme “Innovative Labour and Employment Strategies in a Changing World of Work: Global Challenges – National Solutions”, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev expressed his satisfaction that Baku is hosting another important event serving friendship and cooperation among peoples.
He noted that Azerbaijan has been effectively cooperating with the OIC in the field of labour relations and provided information on the reforms carried out in recent years in the areas of labour, employment, and social protection under the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.
The Minister underlined that ensuring decent work, increasing productivity, creating stable and quality jobs, enhancing the professionalism of the workforce, and providing safe and healthy working conditions are among the priority directions of the country’s labour and employment policies.
Director General of the OIC Labour Centre Azer Bayramov stated that the Centre has been successfully fulfilling its coordination mission among member states in the areas of employment, social protection, and human capital development.
Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdullah Nasser M. Abuthnain delivered a speech on the theme “Transformation of Labour and Employment Systems: From Challenges to Opportunities” and shared his views.
In the following sessions, a number of challenges such as combating informal employment in OIC member states, effective management of the workforce and aligning skills with the requirements of the modern labour market, as well as increasing labour mobility were discussed.
Discussions were also held on vocational education, employment forecasting, and regional cooperation. Azerbaijan’s innovative practices such as DOST and the “Labour and Employment” subsystem (EMAS) were presented.
Within the framework of the event, a meeting of high-level officials was also held to discuss draft documents and reports in preparation for the 2nd session of the General Assembly of the OIC Labour Centre.
Saudi Arabia was elected Chair of the session for the next year, while the Republic of Chad was elected Vice-Chair.
