A meeting was held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population with Hande Harmancı, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative and Head of Country Office in Azerbaijan.
Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev provided information on the reforms carried out in recent years in the field of medical-social expertise and rehabilitation in the country. He highlighted the importance of the new criteria for disability assessment introduced in July 2022 based on progressive international experience.
He also noted the significant steps taken in cooperation with WHO to strengthen the system for providing assistive rehabilitation devices. It was emphasized that in recent years, the list of rehabilitation devices provided at the expense of the state budget has been substantially expanded, with the inclusion of new types of assistive devices.
Achievements in expanding the network of rehabilitation and treatment institutions and bringing their infrastructure in line with modern standards were discussed. Attention was drawn to the implementation of digital solutions in the fields of disability and rehabilitation, including the development and launch of an information system for the Individual Rehabilitation and Abilitation Program for persons with disabilities and the establishment of a national registry of persons with disabilities.
The importance of continued cooperation with WHO in the reform processes across these areas was emphasized. Hande Harmancı expressed satisfaction with the ongoing successful collaboration. During the meeting, future prospects for cooperation between the Ministry and WHO were discussed.
