The 12th meeting of the States Parties to the "International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families" was held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Within the framework of the meeting, elections were held for 7 seats in the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families for 2026-2029, which will become vacant after December 31, 2025.
Among the candidates from a number of countries, Azad Taghizade, the candidate of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the National Observatory on Labour Market and Social Protection Affairs under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population, showed the highest result, winning 55 votes out of 57 countries.
Thus, he was re-elected as a member of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families for the period 2026-2029.
The Committee consists of 14 independent experts and is a body that monitors the implementation of the "International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families" by the States Parties.
