The State Labour Inspection Service under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population organised awareness-raising events in Shaki and Lankaran districts as part of “Peace Month”.
During the events, it was stated that August 21 to September 21 had been declared “Peace Month” by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was noted that the purpose of the month-long campaign is to raise public awareness of the relationship between peace and human rights, strengthen an environment of mutual respect and trust in society, expand opportunities for dialogue and understanding, and encourage state bodies, local self-government authorities, civil society institutions and the general public to participate in activities carried out in this area.
It was emphasised that promoting mutual respect in labour relations, social dialogue, equality and a safe working environment also contributes to strengthening the values of peace, solidarity and cooperation.
Nearly 300 representatives of public and private-sector enterprises and organisations operating in the respective regions participated in the two events. The event held in Shaki covered issues related to labour legislation, including forms and procedures for salary payments and deductions from salaries, as well as occupational health and safety. Information was provided on deadlines for salary payments, legal requirements in cases where salaries are delayed due to the employer’s fault, as well as procedures for organising occupational health and safety.
At the event held in Lankaran, participants were informed about the requirements of labour legislation concerning the protection of motherhood, ensuring women’s labour rights and gender equality. Information was also provided on the organisation of occupational health and safety at workplaces, occupational health and safety standards, rules and principles, procedures for workplace certification, and state standards applicable in this area.
An exchange of views was held on the topics discussed, and participants’ questions were answered.
