In connection with World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population and the State Labour Inspectorate Service under the Ministry held awareness-raising events in the cities of Ganja and Nakhchivan, as well as in Barda, Oghuz, Guba, and Agdash.
The events were held with the participation of employers from enterprises with a large number of employees and workplaces characterized by heavy, harmful, and hazardous working conditions, in accordance with the requirements of Convention No. 155 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) “On Occupational Safety and Health” and based on analyses conducted through the “Labour and Employment” subsystem.
In addition to more than 400 employer representatives, the events were attended by social partners, other government officials, and law enforcement officers. It was emphasized that since 2003, the ILO has designated April 28 as World Day for Safety and Health at Work, and it is also celebrated annually in Azerbaijan.
Occupational health and safety is one of the primary objectives of the state’s social policy in Azerbaijan. The ILO's conventions on occupational safety and health have been ratified by Azerbaijan, and a comprehensive national legislative framework on occupational health and safety has been established and is continuously improving.
Azerbaijan is one of the countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) that has ratified the most ILO standards, with 59 ILO Conventions and one protocol ratified. The process of exploring the possibility of ratifying other ILO conventions is ongoing.
During the events, participants were provided with detailed information on analyses based on international best practices in occupational safety and health, recent amendments to the Labour Code, the activities of the Occupational Health and Safety Center, and newly adopted standards. Additionally, questions raised by participants were answered, and discussions were held based on the suggestions made.
