A meeting of the Trilateral Commission on Social and Economic Issues, comprising representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC), and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers’) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AEC), was held.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population Zaur Aliyev, Head of the Office of the ATUC Ayaz Aliyev, Vice President of the AEC Vugar Zeynalov, as well as representatives of all three organizations.
The meeting highlighted new important steps taken to improve labour legislation as part of the social reforms being implemented in the country. The importance of joint efforts within the framework of social partnership in the process of implementing social reforms, drafting new legislative initiatives and proposals related to labour, employment and social protection, as well as ratifying International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, was emphasized.
The importance of the “DOST Inspector” project for employers was highlighted, and an exchange of views was held on encouraging their participation in the project and the possibility of ratifying the ILO’s 2006 Maritime Labour Convention. Issues related to joint monitoring mechanisms aimed at preventing informal employment relations were also discussed.
