Appeal from the State Labour Inspection Service to Employers:
The State Labour Inspection Service under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population emphasizes that taking necessary measures to protect workers' life and health during weather conditions where the temperature exceeds 41 degrees Celsius is one of the primary responsibilities of employers.
According to the Labour Code, under such weather conditions, all types of work conducted outdoors or in workplaces without cooling equipment must be suspended.
Workers must be provided with opportunities to cool down through breaks, the number and duration of which shall be determined based on a joint decision between the employer and the trade union.
These breaks shall be included within working hours, and workers must be compensated during breaks according to their tariff wage.
In cases where work is suspended, the compensation for downtime shall be paid as non-fault downtime at no less than two-thirds of the employee’s tariff wage.
Where working conditions permit, work may be suspended during the hottest hours of the day (with extended breaks), and the working day may be divided into shifts to regulate the work schedule.
