Karate athletes with hearing impairments from the Azerbaijan Deaflympic Committee achieved great success at the “Chisinau Karate Open Grand Prix” tournament held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, winning a total of 6 medals.
The competition featured nearly 300 athletes from various countries. Azerbaijan was represented by 16 athletes, including 6 Deaflympians with hearing impairments. Our Deaflympians competed in the “Senior Deaf” category, securing 6 medals: 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.
Among them, Elnur Gasimzada (67 kg) won the gold medal; Hikmat Aghayev (60 kg) and Aliakbar Alizada (75 kg) earned silver medals; and Shaig Osmanov (75 kg), Sahib Sahibli, and Elmin Huseynli (both 84 kg) took bronze medals.
It should be noted that our athletes competed under the guidance of head coach Seymur Khudaverdiyev.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan Deaflympics Committee was established in October 2023 in order to ensure the development of physical education and sports among people with hearing impairments, their integration into society, and their successful representation in international sports arenas, and the Committee has been a member of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) since 2025.
