The seminar on “Application of fundamental conventions and other ILO control mechanisms in the field of occupational safety and hygiene” has begun, jointly organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The seminar aims to provide practical application of the main ILO instruments in the field of occupational safety and hygiene, inform relevant state agencies and social partners in the relevant field, and increase capacity in this field.
Fuad Heydarov, Head of the Labour Policy Department of the Ministry, Vugar Zeynalov, Vice President of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Fuad Alakbarov, Advisor to the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation delivered opening speeches and provided information on the labour reforms implemented in our country in recent years and the application of the main ILO instruments in the field of occupational safety and hygiene.
It was noted that our country, which has a broad cooperation agenda with the ILO in this area, has ratified about 60 Conventions of the Organization in the past period, including documents related to labour protection. It was emphasized that important steps have been taken to improve labour legislation based on the principles arising from these Conventions.
It was noted that two Decent Work Country Programs between Azerbaijan and the ILO have been successfully implemented and that the signing of the next program is planned.
ILO experts made presentations on occupational safety and hygiene, safe and healthy working environment, as well as the main ILO standards in this area. Information was provided on the Organization's Conventions related to the relevant field.
The two-day seminar, which will also include the participation of representatives of relevant state bodies and social partners, will include presentations, exchange of views and discussions on the application of other ILO control mechanisms.
