A technical seminar titled “Addressing Just Transition in Nationally Determined Contributions” is being held in Baku, organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The event, attended by representatives of the ILO, relevant government agencies, and social partners, aims to discuss the process of preparing national contributions for a just transition to a green economy and to review the key progress achieved in promoting just transition in our country.
Fuad Heydarov, Head of the Labour Policy Department at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population, Vuqar Zeynalov, Vice President of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Fuad Alakbarov, Advisor to the Chairperson of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, delivered opening speeches at the seminar.
The importance of human capital, the development of green jobs and skills, and the guarantee of decent work in the process of just transition to a green economy were highlighted. The work carried out as national contributions in these areas and the progress achieved were emphasized.
In a video address, Mikhail Pushkin, Director of the Technical Support Group for Decent Work and Head of the ILO Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, outlined the key principles of just transition in the fields of labour and employment. The seminar, moderated by Yaşar Həmzəyev, ILO National Coordinator for Azerbaijan, included presentations on the main advances in just transition to a green economy in Azerbaijan, the process of preparing nationally determined contributions, and other related topics.
The efforts undertaken in the country to shape the workforce characteristic of the transition period to a “green economy” were highlighted. The significant achievements in recent years in strengthening the social protection system and digitalizing services in the fields of labour, employment, and social protection were also noted.
The seminar also featured presentations and discussions on the concept of “Just Transition for All,” the importance of its incorporation in the preparation and implementation of nationally determined contributions, and the activities conducted by the ILO in Azerbaijan in this regard.
