A Protocol on the outcomes of the meeting was signed
The inaugural meeting of the Joint Working Group on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovenia took place in Baku.
Opening the session, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev highlighted the steadily expanding relations between Azerbaijan and Slovenia based on friendly ties. He noted that 12 documents covering cooperation across various sectors have been signed to date between the two countries and emphasized the important role of inter-parliamentary dialogue and working groups in the development of bilateral relations.
Anar Aliyev also noted of the legacy of Mehdi Huseynzadeh—known as Mikhailo—a national hero of Azerbaijan and Hero of the Soviet Union who fought against fascism in Slovenia during World War II, calling him a powerful symbol of friendship between the two peoples.
He further noted a 67% increase in trade turnover between the two countries in the first two months of this year and reminded that seven Azerbaijan–Slovenia business forums have been held to date. The Minister underlined the great potential for expanding cooperation in labour and employment as well.
He also stressed the importance of deepening cooperation in education, healthcare, culture, tourism, sports, and other areas, noting that the current meeting provides an excellent platform to discuss new perspectives for collaboration.
Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, acknowledged the friendly relations between the two countries. She expressed satisfaction with the progress made in expanding cooperation across mutually beneficial areas and emphasized that such efforts help further strengthen bilateral partnership.
Mitja Blaqanje, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia and head of the Joint Working Group from the Slovenian side, underlined their strong commitment to the sustained development of bilateral relations and emphasized the significance of the topics to be discussed during the meeting in expanding areas of cooperation.
The session included presentations from senior representatives of various Azerbaijani and Slovenian institutions. Discussions covered the bilateral cooperation agenda, including expanding ties in the fields of economy and trade, healthcare, education, culture, transport, ICT, sports, tourism, and investment, as well as developing relations in labour, employment, and social protection.
Following the discussions, the co-chairs of the Joint Working Group—First Deputy Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan Anar Karimov and Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport of Slovenia Mitja Blaganje—signed the Protocol reflecting the outcomes of the meeting.
