The 24th day of the Patriotic War, which ended with our Magnificent Victory, October 20, 2020, is commemorated as the day when the city of Zangilan and surrounding villages were liberated from Armenian occupation.
On December 23, 2020, President Ilham Aliyev raised the Azerbaijani flag in Zangilan. According to the Decree signed by the Head of State on July 31, 2023, October 20 is celebrated as Zangilan City Day.
Based on the President’s Decree, the “For the Liberation of Zangilan” medal was established, and military personnel who participated in the combat operations for the liberation of Zangilan and demonstrated personal courage and bravery were awarded this medal.
Like other liberated territories, Zangilan has become a site for large-scale restoration and reconstruction. In July 2022, the resettlement of the population to Ağalı village of Zangilan began. Modern new houses were built for residents in Ağalı, and a State Services Center was established in the village square, where the “Smart DOST” service point also operates.
