Within the framework of the “Employment Support Project” implemented by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population with the financial support of the World Bank, nearly 24000 unemployed individuals from vulnerable groups have already established small businesses in the production and service sectors.
This was stated during a meeting held at the Ministry with Paolo Belli, the World Bank’s regional manager for social protection and jobs.
Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev, drew attention to the reforms carried out in recent years in the fields of labour, employment, and social protection in Azerbaijan, and emphasized the importance of the joint projects implemented with the World Bank over the past period.
It was noted that as a result of the successful implementation of the “Employment Support Project,” which aims to cover 22000 unemployed individuals, the number of project participants will exceed 26000 within this year.
It was stated that the successful implementation of this project, which supports the expansion of the self-employment program and facilitates access of vulnerable groups to small business, has been highly appreciated by the World Bank and awarded a prize.
Other active employment programs implemented in our country, as well as recent steps taken to improve labour legislation, were also brought to attention.
During the meeting held as part of the World Bank’s next mission related to the “Employment Support Project”, information was provided on the discussions held within the mission. Work to be carried out within the project and future directions of cooperation with the World Bank in the social field were discussed.
