The self-employment programme implemented on the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev not only helps eliminate unemployment but also creates opportunities to establish small family businesses.
In the initial stage, training sessions are organised for participants of the programme by the State Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, where they are taught knowledge and skills related to establishing and managing small businesses. After completing the training, participants are provided with assets to establish their small enterprises in line with their business plans.
In an interview with local television channels, the President stated that the self-employment programme has been implemented for several years and has covered more than 100 thousand people:
“The self-employment programme practically eliminates a large part of unemployment, and with the tools provided, these people can support their family budgets.”
While the annual number of participants in the self-employment programme was 1,172 people in 2017, when the programme was first launched, this figure has since increased by 14.5–15 times. Last year alone, an additional 16,827 people were included in the programme.
